Everest Base Camp Trekking

In a perfect world, most of us would love to stand at the summit of the globe, 8,848 meters up on Mt Everest.

Realistically, most of us will not be able to accomplish this! But if you have good fitness and determination, you can reach Everest Base Camp!

And, believe me, the views of Everest from Kalapatthar are the most breathtaking you can get without spending weeks hiking up to the summit!

Hopefully, you have gone through our sections about the Everest Base Camp journey and have acquired all of the information you need to help you determine when you want to undertake this journey, what to bring with you on the EBC trek, and some of the highlights.

EBC Trekking Highlight

The beginning location for all Everest excursions is Namche Bazaar, where you should stay.
The Khumbu Glacier and Khumbu Icefalls’ icy beauty will astound you.

Emulate Sir Edmund Hillary and other well-known mountaineers by following in their footsteps.
Experience the deep spiritual ties of Tengboche Monastery.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure; it’s not a luxury tour.

The type of lodging is a twin-share arrangement. With a nominal fee, access to hot showers, wifi, and power outlets is available. Where else can you have views of the Himalayan mountains from your window despite the apartments not being luxurious?

Fresh Himalayan cuisine is served in the teahouses along the trail. Where else can you drink a steaming hot DalBhat while taking in the breathtaking splendor of the Khumbu Valley?

Good physical condition is necessary. However, we’ll make sure you’re properly acclimated to the altitude. On the trek, we advise you to stay well-hydrated and limit your alcohol consumption.

Check out Everest Base if you want to see Everest but don’t want to hike.

Permits for EBC Trekking

To protect the natural splendor of Mount Everest and other summits in the Himalayan range, the government of Nepal charges permit admission fees.

Permits are required for entry to all national parks in Nepal, and the Sagarmatha National Park is no exception. The cost of the permits is negligible when compared to the total expense of your vacation to Nepal and the Everest region. It is an investment in the future of this stunning region, which is home to snow, forests, ice, meadows, and a rich cultural heritage.

The Khumbu may have been popularized by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, but numerous climbers and trekkers have since admired the splendor of places like Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Goyko Lakes, and many others. Let’s make sure that this place is preserved as is for upcoming hikers and Nepalese citizens.

You require entrance permissions, which are described below, for the Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek.

Permit for Entry into Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality (NPR 2000 Per Person)
Entry Permit for Sagarmatha National Park (NPR 3,000 Per Person)
For additional information on permits for treks to Everest base camp, go here.

For its customers, Magical Nepal supplies the necessary licenses.

On an Average Day of the EBC Trekking

Some things never change, even when the landscape and mountain views do. For instance, the trek’s days begin and conclude in a similar way.

We gather for breakfast in the teahouse (lodge) dining room at 6 or 7 a.m. to kick off the day. We order breakfast the night before so that the teahouse proprietor may serve it to us promptly. Prepare your duffel bag after breakfast; the porter will transport it. He’ll start out at his own speed. You only need to bring a daypack with you that contains any items you might need, such as a water bottle, sunscreen, snacks, etc., for the day.

Then you and your guide will begin trekking. Your guide will have described the day’s attractions the previous evening, so the route will be familiar. Up until the trailside lunch stop, we keep going. This will probably take place in a tiny town. Follow the trek until you reach the overnight teahouse after lunch.

It’s time to choose your dinner at the teahouse before unwinding with other travelers or penning a diary. During or after dinner, the guide will describe the terrain and route for the following day. Before retiring to bed, don’t forget to place your breakfast order.

Vital information for EBC Trekking

Due to traffic at the Kathmandu airport, flights to the Everest region now depart from Ramchhap airport. We depart Kathmandu around 1 am in order to make the several-hour trip to Ramchhap in time for the early-morning flights. Due to the strong winds in the mountains in the afternoons, there are no flights during the day or at night.
Weather-related issues can cause flight delays or cancellations. We advise you to include a two- or three-night backup plan. That means if your scheduled departure from Lukla is on Monday, do not book your international flight on Tuesday. The best days to reserve are Thursday or Friday.
There will be an additional cost of roughly $100 if you choose to fly in a helicopter from Kathmandu to Lukla.

For solitary travelers, the package rate does not include any additional fees. However, please put on the single supplement at check-out if you are traveling alone and would want a single room.

Only 20 kilograms can be carried by porters. So please don’t overpack. You will be given a bag or duffle bag that is simple for porters to handle.
The weight restriction on airlines is 15 kilograms per passenger. At the airport’s airline counter, you can pay for any excess. Keep in mind that this is only feasible if the flight is not already overweight. Again, please don’t overpack.

When making your reservation, kindly provide us a copy of your passport because we need it to schedule domestic flights.

The cost of the expedition includes all meals. Alcohol, additional snacks, or hot or cold beverages are not included in this. In Kathmandu, only breakfast is included; lunch and dinner are not.

Hot showers cost between $3 and $5 more, and battery charging costs between $1 and $3.
A wifi card may be purchased in Namche Bazaar or Lukla at http://everestlink.com.np/ for $25. In the Everest Region, 10 or 20 GB of data are offered for use during a 30-day period. Because it will depend on the environment and location, we are unable to guarantee the wifi’s quality.

Please be patient with us if there are delays because the weather in the mountains can change drastically and rapidly. If your guide decides to alter the schedule, heed his recommendations.

Please be patient with us if there are delays because the weather in the mountains can change drastically and rapidly. If your guide decides to alter the route in any way owing to the weather, heed his recommendations.
Except with a specific licence, drones are not allowed to be used in the Everest region. This is due to the high number of unauthorized helicopter flights. If you don’t need a drone, leave it at home because getting authorization can be difficult.
Do not forget your insurance!
Most importantly, have fun on your great journey!

Day 1 arrival in kathmandu

You will be welcomed by a representative of our company when you arrive at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport and transported to your accommodation.

Your hotel is located in Thamel, a bustling and colorful neighborhood in the heart of the city. This is a fun area to spend an afternoon with its restaurants, bars, and shops selling distinctive Nepali handcrafted things and trekking gear.

You will get the chance to meet your guide today and ask any last-minute inquiries you may have regarding your journey to Everest Base Camp.

Day 2 flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, then to Phakding

Time of flight: 35 to 40 minutes
3 to 4 hours for the trek
Tea House Trekking Distance: 6.2 km/3.8 miles Lodging
Flights to Lukla will probably depart from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap District due to altered rules and improvements at the domestic airport in Kathmandu.

This requires a nighttime, four-hour journey from Kathmandu. The 20-minute flight from Manthali will leave early in the morning.

Our knowledgeable native porters will be waiting for you when you arrive in Lukla. We already see Tibetan prayer flags flapping as we make our way down the trail to Phakding and run into locals who are walking while reciting Tibetan mantras.

Day 3 from Namche to Phakding

5 to 6 hours for the trek
Arrangements: Tea House
Trekking distance: 4.6 miles/7.4 kilometres
We pass through forests, traditional settlements with plowed fields, and yak pastures on today's hike. We can see Thamserku soaring above us as we approach the Sagarmatha National Park's entrance.

We continue to Namche Bazaar after lunch. The starting location for excursions and trekking groups, this is the biggest Sherpa village in the Khumbu Region.

If you neglected to pick up a few last-minute necessities in Kathmandu, you may get them here (like chocolate).

Day 4 Namche Bazar's Day of Acclimatization

5 to 6 hours for the trek
Arrangements: Tea House
Acclimatization day is today so that our body can get used to the high altitude. However, that doesn't imply we take action! Being active is the most effective approach to acclimate.

It is possible to spend a few hours hiking nearby or visiting the school Sir Edmund Hillary established in the Khumjung hamlet as a token of gratitude for all the help the Sherpa people provided him during his successful summit of Mount Everest.

Kwangde (6,011 m), Thamserku (6,623 m), Kangtega (6,782 m), Nuptse (7,861 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), Ama Dablam (6,812 m), and of course Mount Everest (8,848 m) are a few of the mountains seen today.

Day 5 from Namche to Tengboche

5 to 6 hours for the trek
Arrangements: Tea House
Trekking distance 9.2 kilometers (5.7 miles)
Today's terrain doesn't include a lot of high climbs and descents, giving you plenty of time to focus on your photos! Photographs should be taken of stupas (Buddhist temples), prayer flags, mani walls (walls with Buddhist prayers etched into them), and mountains like Ama Dablam and Tengboche Monastery.

Dusty switchbacks make up the trek leading to Tengboche, but the expansive views from the monastery are well worth the effort. If you're fortunate, you might be able to attend a service, for which a modest donation would be nice. Some butter lamps can be lit.

Day 6 from Tengboche to Dingboche.

4 to 5 hours for the trek
Arrangements: Tea House
Trekking distance: 12.45 kilometers (7.45 miles).
Of course, the route is incredibly beautiful, but it's also quite difficult right now. Following the Imja Khola, we ascend to the potato-dominated fields of Dingboche.

The Khumbu Region's highest Sherpa village is located here. The views of Ama Dablam are breathtaking and dramatic from here, and we'll get to Dingboche in time for lunch. The remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure to read a book or take in the scenery of the mountains nearby.

Day 7 Day of Acclimatization in Dingboche

4 to 5 hours for the trek
Arrangements: Tea House
It is crucial to take another day to acclimate because to the constantly rising altitude. Today, there are numerous possibilities for quick hikes.

Visiting the sacred sites and Mt. Makalu views at the foot of Nangkar Tshang Peak is one example. This climb, which takes between 3.5 and 5 hours round way, will help our bodies acclimate to the high altitudes that lie ahead.

Day 8 from Dingboche to Lobuche.

4 to 5 hours for the trek
Arrangements: Tea House
Trek 8.5 kilometers (5.2 miles)
The journey starts today with a gradual ascent toward the Pheriche Valley. We trek above the valley level, passing through yak pastures and alpine brush. Tawoch and Cholotse are visible, while Ama Dablam is behind us. Ama Dablam appears to be climbing straight up from the valley bottom from this vantage point.

The trail continues to Thokla Pass, although the climb there is difficult. Panorama views of Nuptse, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, and a few additional peaks with elevations of 7,000 meters or more make this location another photographer's dream!

We arrive in Lobuche after passing across the pass. Although the town itself is not particularly appealing, the surrounding landscape is stunning and dramatic.

Day 9  from Lobuche. The following day, walk to Kalapatthar

from Lobuche. The following day, walk to KalapattharTrek duration: 6–7 hours
Arrangements: Tea House
Trekking distance: 9.3 miles/15 kilometers
It's a fun day today! Today, we ascend to the Everest viewing platform. First, the trail leads us over boulders and difficult terrain for nearly three hours to the little town of Gorakshep.

After lunch, the journey to Kalapatthar begins, where the views of Everest are unquestionably the best. The highest altitude at which we can trek in Nepal without a climbing permit is 5,545 meters. Its name, which meaning "black rock," refers to a ridge rather than a mountain.

from Lobuche. The following day, walk to KalapattharWe may depart Kalapatthar in the morning if the weather is clear, as the dawn above Everest is just as breathtaking as the sunset. If we choose this course of action, we will walk today to Everest Base Camp. Be warned that trekking groups do not enter the base camp where expeditions are set up immediately.

This prevents us from interfering with the climbers' work or endangering their health. (We don't want to send them on their epic voyage with our colds and flu!) However, we have a clear picture of everything that is going on.

Day 10  from Lobuche. The following day, walk to KalapattharGorakshep to Pheriche (EBC Morning Hike)

from Lobuche. The following day, walk to KalapattharTrek duration: 7–8 hours
Arrangements: Tea House
19 6 miles of trekking distance
We would travel to Kalapatthar this morning if we hadn't done so yesterday, returning to Gorakshep for breakfast. Similar to that, we will go to Everest Base Camp this morning if we didn't on day 9. The trek from Gorakshep back takes between three and four hours.

We go for Pheriche after breakfast, which takes about four hours. The Himalayan Rescue Association Clinic can be found in this small community.

It has been around for a while and is now a hospital, but it continues to focus on locals' health as well as altitude sickness and other difficulties experienced by trekkers and climbers. This unique characteristic of the neighborhood, which is staffed primarily by volunteers in the medical field.

Day 11 Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

Trek duration: 6 to 7 hours
Tea House as a place to stay
Trek length: 16 km/9.9 miles
Today's trail falls significantly, but there are some uphills to contend with! The forests and foliage reappear as we approach Namche.

This is a long day of trekking, made more difficult by the difficult hike the day before. But keep going because a tasty meal and a hot shower await! And now is the time to toast your successful trek to Everest Base Camp with a cold one!

With wifi available, it is also a good time to contact loved ones back home and possibly upload a few photos from your trip.

Day 12 Namche to Lukla

Trek duration: 5 to 6 hours
Tea House as a place to stay
Trek length: 16 km/9.9 miles
Take one last glance at the spectacular Himalayan mountains in the early morning, and bid farewell to the Khumbu Valley and Mount Everest. Then, as we make our final lengthy ascent into Lukla, keep your head down.

day 13 Lukla to Kathmandu (Flight)

Flight duration: 35–40 minutes
Hotel accommodation
This morning, we bid farewell to Mt. Everest and the Khumbu Region as we catch our flight back to Kathmandu or Manthali. We will return to Kathmandu for brunch or in the early afternoon, depending on which airport is open at the time and, of course, weather circumstances. Then we'll go shopping before our farewell meal in the evening.

Day 14 Departure

After breakfast, our representative will transport you to Tribhuvan International Airport in plenty of time for your onward trip. If you plan to stay in Nepal longer or have a late flight, please keep in mind that the hotel check-out time is 11 a.m.
